Modern life is filled with different stressors than can impact upon our health. They can be loosely categorized into 4 main areas:
Physical stress: Accidents such as car crashes, lifting heavy objects, impacts or falls on the sports field or on ice are obvious physical challenges. However daily activities such as poor posture, computer work, driving long distances, repetitive work, carrying young children, pregnacy, caring for a disabled adult or child can also have a progressive impact on our body.
Chemical stress: For those of you that have seen Supersize Me, you will understand the devastating impact eating fast food only, had on one persons health. Our environment is full of chemicals, be they cigarettes, alcohol, pesticides or chemicals in our food, too much sugar and processed foods, petrol fumes, mercury fillings, cleaning products, etc. This list is endless. Too many toxins can have a detrimental impact on your health.
Emotional/Psychological stress: This is so commonly overlooked in our society. It is very British to put a smile on and say that "things are fine" when actually things are actually very bad or challenging. Life events such as death of a loved one, redundancy, moving house, marriage, divorce, puberty, menopause can all be stressors that challenge our body.
Electromagnetic stress: in our world of wireless internet, mobiles phones and so on, we are as yet fully aware of the impact these technologies may have on our body. Research will probably tell us this in years to come, for now we have to hope that the stress is not too great and that we as a species can cope.
Advice
To be healthy, the advice is simple, the challenge is to do it!
Exercise at least 3x per week for a minimum of 30 minutes per day.
Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, minimum 5 portions per day. In addition to this, personally I recommend only eating food that looks like food. For example if you read the list of ingredients and most of them appear to be chemicals, you may want to reconsider and think of the impact they may have on your body. And avoid processed food where at all possible. Drink plenty of water and minimise fizzy drinks and squash. Avoid diet sodas as many of the sweeteners are linked to health problems, though not yet proven to be detrimental to health, many are also not proven to be totally safe. The jury is out.
Many of us try but don't succeed in eating our daily requirements of fruit and vegetables. To support you in this, we supply a top quality nutritional supplement made from the dehydrated pulp of 17 fruit and vegetables. To find out more click on Juice Plus+
Positive mental attitude is so important in this society. Do things you really enjoy. Find time every day to laugh, yell, express your emotions in whatever way works for you. If it means singing loudly in the car, then do it. Find something you really enjoy and work it into every day or week, because life is for living and doing things you enjoy is incredibly important for your mental health.
If you have to use a mobile phone, put it on loudspeak as much as possible and avoid holding it next to your head. Consider whether or not you want a wireless connection in your house and if you do, turn it off when you sleep. This may not be significant for you health, but we don't know, so why add to the risks.
